The transformational analysis between the active and passive structures is the target of this thesis. we introduce the mirror principle to link syntax and morphology (phrase) in order to descripe and interprete the Active and Passive Structures. We discover the character of mirror(symmetry). The thesis is composed of one preface and six chapters. The preface explains the scope of this research, its theoretical background, research methods, and corpora. The first chapter gives a thorough account of the research of ba Structure and bei Structure. Wangli(1943)considered them as the resultative and the passive dependently, which guides or influences the research at home or abroad, even the generative grammar. The 2nd chapter introduces the theoretical foundation and analysis method——the mirror principle, which is considered as an UG. The content of the mirror principle is that morphological derivations must directly reflect syntactic derivations and vice versa(Baker 1985). The mirror principle links the independent morphological derivations and the independent syntactic derivations, which is considered as parallelism and checks the features of each other's to be matched F (π,λ). The mirror principle has not only the conceptual advantages, but also the learnability of languages of children.Chapter3,4,5 are the core parts of the thesis. Based on the mirror principle, we focus on the transformational analysis between the active and passive structures, especially between the ba and bei structures. Here we discover the constraints are the ergative, the person and the tense(aspects).Chapter3 deals with the concurrence structure of ba and bei, according to the split Hypothesis (Polloch1989; Chomsky1989) and the mirror principle. This analysis gives us a conclusion that the V-R structure is the product of merging small substructures. In chapter4, we analyse the ba structures, based on the mirror principle. we discover the features and transformational constraints of the ba structures are the ergative, the person and the tense (aspects). Ba is the marker of the ergative. In the ba structure, the verb has the constraints of the person. In chapter5, we analyse 3 kinds of the bei structures, according to the mirror principle. we discover the features and transformational constraints of the bei structures are the ergative, the person and the tense (aspects). In the bei structure, the most important discovery is the homophony transformation:的(?)de(?)得, which is the most economy and symmetry.we have the great conclusion: if and only if [e-Vt-t]-de-[-N-Vi-le],then (ⅰ) CH= ([+T], [-T])=(的,得);(ⅱ)的(?)de(?)得;(ⅲ) [AGR-[T-[Vt]-de]-AGR].Chapter6 concludes the thesis with a final discussion and the summary of the overall thesis. Besides the conclusions, some deficiencies are also mentioned, which will be ameliorated by further researches henceforth.
