The site of emperors'temporary abodes are the palace built in scenic spot by the ancient Chinese emperors and other privileged classes to escape the heat and cold or have leisure. Dozens were built in the Tang dynasty, among them, Jiucheng Palace (it called Renshou palace in Sui Dynasty) is located in Linyou County Baoji City and Yuhua Palace is in Yintai District Tongchuan City are very famaous. This paper selects the two palaces as a research object, by investigating its background, the rise and fall, construction layout and function, environmental transformation, impact and value and sort of related historical events in order to achieve a comprehensive and deep understanding on Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace. On this basis, to expand its horizons, by comparing other abodes and imperial palaces in the capital to explore the general characteristics of this type of buildings. Meanwhile, we can give some perspectives about the cultural values of two palaces, to provide some useful historical references for the current and future urban construction, tourism development, heritage conservation and research.This article is divided into seven parts:First, introduction. Briefly discusses the academic research of Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace and related research achievements, so as to clarify the reason of this topic selection, research significance, research methods, and research paper involves the scope and definition.Second, this part mainly explores the Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace's historical and geographical basis. By looking back the emperors' temporary abodes in GuanZhong Area before Tang dynasty, we can know that it has already become a rule to build the abode. Tang dynasty emperors needs to build dozens abodes to escape hot summer, coldness and military strategy needs. Meanwhile, considering the political situations in North-West Frontier, we can know the necessity of rebuild Jiucheng Palace (it called Renshou palace in Sui Dynasty) and built Yuhua Palace.Third, considering the construction process of Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace, summarize and compare the characteristics and causes of the development process of two palaces. The two palaces were both based on old building and rebuilt during the period of Tang Taizong and become very famous. However, the developing features of these two palaces have same differences.Forth, it discusses the construction layout and function sections of Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace. After analyses the buildings in two palaces, we can determine the location and role of them. At the same time, we can summerise some construction layout and function sections features. Then, compared the two palaces with other palaces and even the royal palaces in capital, we can know the general characteristic of these buildings.Fifth, explore the environmental transformation condition about Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace. Mainly explore the choice, transformation and the use of the environment when they chose the specific address of the two palaces. According to this, to summerise the characteristics of the changing process. Meanwhile, to compare the differences of the two.Sixth, conclude the historical influence and the modern values of two palaces. The two palaces are two outstanding representatives of the in Tang dynasty, but also had great effects on the following generations. Basically, to explore the guidance advantage in developing, protecting and make use of these two sites. At the same time, to predict the prospect of the site of emperors' temporary abodes'cultural tourism.Seventh, conclusion, bbriefly conclude the main ideas of whole paper.In this paper, Jiucheng Palace and Yuhua Palace are taken as two cases, it's a preliminary try in research from the perspective of the historical geography, there are several creative ideas in academy, as follow:First, taking Jiucheng and Yuhua Palace as cases to do a research from the perspective of the historical geography. Analysing and comparing the historical and geographical basis, developing characteristics, layout and functional sections, environmental transformation and it's value. And then compare it with other palaces and royal palaces in the capital to conclude the general characteristics of layout and functional aspects of the site of emperors'temporary abodes.Second, starting from environmental historical perspective to explore the environment chosing,using and transformation process of the two palaces which indicates the deep relationship between human's activities and the transformation of the environment, which also present the essentials of the historical geography research.Third, the sites of emperors'temporary abodes are the buildings which serves for the emperor. Through textual research we can know it's building's arrangement and functional sections are extremely similar to those in the capital. From this part, the sites of emperors'temporary abodes do possess some certain characteristics of the capital city in Tang dynasty. Therefore, starting the exploration from this perspective is an indirect way to promote the urban historical geography research in this relatively weak field.
