Fang Dongmei Literary Aesthetics Thought

In the history of modern Chinese philosophy, Fang Dongmei is a great master who has a thorough knowledge of both western and traditional Chinese culture, sets up a system of his own and achieves outstanding accomplishment. From the perspective of modern art aesthetics, Fang Dongmei, the representative of Neo-Confucianism, has harbored abundant ideas of literature and art aesthetic. However, it is not able to arouse people's attention far and wide. So far, the monograph thesis expounding his philosophical thinking are not few , but those discussing his features in studying literature and art aesthetics are countable. This paper aims to achieve a systematic carding of Fang Dongmei's thoughts on literature and art aesthetic, to fill in the deficiency of the study in his art aesthetic ideology and enrich the present studying patterns of modern literature and art aesthetics. Especially, it has dramatic significance in restoring the the literature and art with chinese features and the system of aesthetic utterance.The art aesthetic ideology of Fang Dongmei is based on the philosophy of life, He attaches much importance to the feelings and experiences of life in both his attitude towards art and in his appreciation of art. He maintains that the creation of art is the creation of beauty and the essence of beauty lies in the vital creation of life. Therefore,all art derives from the greatness of caring for life . In his academic pursuit, he takes developing and expanding chinese culture and artistic spirit as learning gist all the time and advocates"art for life".This paper aims to discuss systematically the art aesthetic ideology of Fang Dongmei from four aspects. The introduction includes the current studying situation , the value of studying , research method and the characteristics of the study on the whole. Part I explains the source of his thoughts and the philosophy basis , being the premiss and basis for further research. Part II concentrates on the content of Fang Dongmei's art aesthetic ideology and focuses on the characteristics of the aesthetics of art creation. Part III analyses the visualization of Fang Dongmei's art aesthetic ideology in his creation of poems. Part Iv is the objective evaluation of Fang Dongmei's art aesthetic ideology. The ideas make more sense in comparison. By comparing Fang Dongmei with his contemporaries like the aesthetician Zong Baihua , Xu Fuguan, this paper stresses the characteristics of his art aesthetic ideology.On the whole,Fang's art aesthetic ideology has the features of macroscopic view and is strategically situated The viewpoint is unique , with a system of his own. It also has defects, such as the insufficient recognization of the new art categories and the exaggeration of the reform function of the society. But after all defects can not belittle virtues, Fang Dong Mei has integrated Chinese and Western literature,made bold conformity and improvements in specific practices of art and the art aesthetics and set a model for the reform of traditional chinese art aesthetics. He always stands in the position of traditional chinese academic research, defends the national art spirit and draws on the essence of all schools. It is of great significance for the"language deviation"of our nation. His thoughts on"art purifying of life",can be considered as something of aesthetic significance in combination of art and life.
