The paper will be divided to be four parts to demonstrate. The basic conclusion of the article is that a number of factors result Thailand’s democratic consolidation dilemma. So we should use multiple angle of view to observe and analysis democratic consolidation.Section one: Introduction. Summarizing the achievement and limitations about international and domestic researches. Firstly, the existing research is lack of multi-perspective and systematical analyze. Democratic consolidation is a complicated and systematic engineering, but most researches focus on explaining Thailand’s dilemma through one dimension, so their conclusions are one-sided. Secondly, the demonstration of causal relationship is inadequacy. Some researches are prefer description to analyzing and can not effectively persuade us. And some viewpoints are even divorced from reality. Thirdly, the existing researches do not take full advantage of the resources of theory and cases. Their are many people to study Linz and Stepan’s democratic consolidation theory, but few people combine it with Thailand’s practice. And they are never taking Thailand as case to demonstrate their views as well.So the paper’s innovation lies in taking Linz and Stepan’s theory as main direction and not being confined to the theory as well. The author will find out the references and shortcomings to comprehensively analyze Thailand’s democratic dilemma.Section two: The introduction and introspection to Linz and Stepan’s democratic theory. They systemically summarize some effecting elements of democracy and extract an analytical model, so it is feasible to inspect Thailand with their theory. But we also need to rethink the shortcomings in their theory. Firstly, they take too much emphasis on political institution and do not pay enough attention to non-institution factor, such as political culture and history. Secondly, they are overly concerned with economic improvement or crisis in a short time and lose sight of economic and social structure transition in modernization so their conclusions are not considerate. Thirdly, it is necessary to combine particular circumstance to analyze the view of political institution effecting democratic consolidation(mainly of political party system and constitutional system).Section three: Multiple-factor analysis about Thailand’s democratic consolidation dilemma. The main reasons are: firstly, traditional culture weaken psychological identification on democracy and erode the basis of democratic consolidation; secondly, severe social disruption and antagonism tear the basis of political consensus, while this is the primary cause; thirdly, the defects in political party and constitutional system are the keys of democratic breakdown.Section four: Conclusion. Make a brief review about the whole paper and summarize the enlightenment through the research in case of providing reference for the future study. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Thailand, Democratic consolidation, The breakdown of democratic regime | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
