The aim of this paper is to study the urbanization of China's western area in face of economic globalization. According to the actualities of the western area's urbanization and the internal & international conditions, we should put forward the urbanization strategy, to guide the practice of the Development of Western China. Economic globalization has become an avoidless trend, with the international economic relations being closer and closer. With the acceleration of China's entry into WTO, economic globalization will influence all the aspects of civil economic activities. Economic globalization and urbanization promote mutually and develop together. One hand, economic globalization drives the development of urbanization; on the other hand, the trend of economic globalization requires acceleration of urbanization objectively. At the same time, economic globalization will influence the city avoidlessly and bring great opportunities and challenges to it. The level of our country's urbanization is backward compared with the economic development level, which evinces more obviously in western area. This is caused by two reasons. One is that the effect of the motility mechanism and correlative factors for urbanization is very weak in western China; the other is that the degree of the west's taking part in economic globalization is very low and then the mechanism between economic globalization and urbanization has not been established. In face of economic globalization the west should put emphasis on big cities to form "Growth Pole", and then promote the development of the whole region. This way is fit for the western actualities and the internal & international conditions. To put this strategy into practice successfully, we must take some other measures. Firstly, to develop the agriculture and improve peasants' income. Secondly, to speed up the process of industrialization and the adjustment of industrial structure. Thirdly, to open the door widely and take part in the process of economic globalization actively. Fourthly, to advance urban economy by science and education. Finally, to correctly understand the role of government in the process of urbanization.
