The foreword gives a brief introduction to the study purpose and study method of the the-sis. Because no people has made researchs into the ShiWuCes(a type of essay in accient Chi-na on current affairs, they are called "S. W. C" for short) of the imperial examinations inMing Dynasty in a systematic and thorough way, the author tries to research into them prelim-inarily from the vangle combining the study of documents with history.The thesis is divided into four parts.Part Ⅰ The Masterial Carriers of the S.W.C in Ming DynastyIn this part, the author gives a clear introduction to all kinds of Dengkelus(the originalrecord of the imperial examinations), some other documents of the imperial examinations,ShiLus(the chronicles of the emperors) of the Ming Dynasty and the collected works carriersof the S. W. C of the Ming Dynasty──all kinds of extant Dengkelus by their present situa-tion of collection. At the same time, in order to make an orerall comprehension of the spaceand time of the extant Dengkelus and the utilization of the thesis, the author makes a formaccording to the distribution and utilization of the Dengkelus.Part Ⅱ The Origin, Development and Change of the S.W.C of the Ming DynastyIn this part, the author introduces the history of the S. W. C and the imperial examina-tion system. The imperial examination by S.W. C started from the Han Dynasty, developpedin the Sui, Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasty, and reached its summit in the Ming Dynasty. TheQing Dynasty followed the imperial examination system of the Ming Dynasty untill it was thor-oughly abolished in 1906. In the history of the imperial examination, although the Tang andSong Dynasty stressed on the poem and fu(descriptive prose interspersed with verse), theMing and Qing Dynasty stressed on the study of Confucian classics, the S. W. C examiningthe capabicity of the candidates of solving the practical problems have never been abolished.More ever, they were placed on a higher situation. Even carried out several reforms to re-place the poem, fu and the study of Confucian classics.Part Ⅲ The Structure of the S.W.
