Since Bill of Lading is regarded as the most important document of the international cargo transportation, research and study on the legal system of Bill of Lading is also regarded as the main point of studying maritime law. This dissertation is mainly on legal qualities of Bill of Lading, hereby referred to as substantive title, which means indirect possession of the goods and ostensible title, which is some kind of value document. Besides, it also deals with the study of the pledge function of the Bill of Lading when used in the Letter of Credit practice. Based on above research and study, some opinions and suggestions are put forward accordingly.
