In order to win the rivals in manufacturing, corporations had to raise efficiency and improve the flexible of manufacturing systems so as to increase profitability through the increase of productivity and variety. The technique of simulation can offer the decision-making support for corporation in Advanced Manufacturing System to face these varieties. While at present the existing MHS(material handling system) simulation software or simulator had the following disadvantage: (i) user needs to program when modelling, so the cycle is long and the efficiency is low; (ii) the consistence and accuracy of model data can't be assured; (iii) the evaluation process is liable to be error. So we developed a new simulation software and a general simulation platform with the object-oriented-programming techniques, according to the composing of MHS and the practical needs of simulation system. The characters of the new simulator include: including the existing material flow category, no need of programming, more functions, real control and scheduling logic similar to a real FMS, suitable for interactive graphical modelling, prompt running after modelling, high efficiency.We practically ran the new simulator and tested its function in ChangChun FMS national key laboratory in September 2001. The result showed that the new simulator had a good performance in modelling, operation and evaluation. It also showed innovation in technology and validated the principle.The research provides a principle platform for the researchers and technicians who are engaged in the designing, manufacturing and using of advanced manufacturing systems, and for those who are engaged in the advanced manufacturing system simulation. It also lays a foundation for the future expansion.
