Ever since 1980,international banking industry experienced drastic changes. Deregulation, information technology progress and financial globalization, gave commercial banks great freedom. Driven by making profit, they kept expanding their business and field. Our society and lives were deeply changed. But financial risks seemed beyond their control. Bank crises happened again and again. People focused on banking supervision again, hoping to find a road leading to safety and prosperity. However, the reformation of banking supervision in our country is more complicated. With obvious signs of planning-economy system, traditional supervision mode seemed too weak to run. Many factors, such as WTO, diversification, commercial motives and multi-financial demands made the reformation of supervision system demanding. Where is the road?Under such background, it is significant to study banking supervision. This paper tried to find causes and trends of modern banking supervision from its theories, arrangements, and history. And put emphases on analyzing characteristics, background and drawbacks of traditional banking supervision. As a result, this paper suggested that realistic choice of our country be market-orientating supervision mode. Following are the framework of this paper:Preface: Introducing the background and significance of studying banking supervision.Chapter 1: Analyzing importance and theories of banking supervision.Chapter 2: Discussing institution arrangement and deeply studying the capital adequacy regulation.Chapter 3: Studying the changes and trends of international banking supervision. Introducing and analyzing Basel Accord and its amending.Chapter 4: Studying the characteristics, background and drawbacks of traditional banking supervision of our country.Chapter 5: Suggesting that the realistic choice of China be market-orientating supervision mode. Explaining what, why and how.
