People's attention to logistics industry has been increasing since "logistics----the distribution bottle neck of electronic business" was firstly heard of by Chinese people in the second half of 1999.The third party logistics which is in the ascendant and developing rapidly, is particularly the goal for capitals to pay close attention to and pursue. Being the leading roles of the capital market in China , many listed companies are ready to open or have already opened logistics as their latest main business. During the same period, Zheng Bai Weng ( a reunion of SanLiang )'s proclaimation that it was going to invest in logistics industry was also reported in the media. Market's emphasis on logistics was very obvious in the case.Initially being responsible for purchase ,manufacture support and material distribution ,logistics has stretched its service to clients and providers and a concept of "supplying chain " has been formed in it.The guidence of supplying chain, coupled with the extensive usiage of information technology in logistics ,greatly reduced the cost of logistics which was one of the main transport costs in enterprises. Logistics administration has already become the so-called "the source of the tertiany profit"(compared with the inerease of profit brought about by the expansion of market). In the second half of 1999, China Ocean Sichuan Corporation (COSCO LOGISTICS in brief) was founded. As the terminal of the whole "China Ocean "logistics system, it focuses on providing professional third party service for small and medium-sized enterprises. Soon after COSCO's establishment , it cooperated with Sichuan Haier Logistics and supplied distribution service to its electrical appliances marketing in the whole Sichuan province so far ,COSCO is still the chief provider of the third party logistics service for Sichuan Haier Logistics in the area in Chengdu and it has a distribution radius of150 kilometers .We can safely conclude that COSCO has both the advantage of brand and the advantage of channels for clients fromits superior corporation Sichuan China Ocean International Shipping LTD,CO.(SCS in brief) which has a long-time experience in logistics. Together with the adequate fluid finance support from SCS,COSCO has a certain advantages compared with its competitors. So it should have performed well. But it has just achieved some successes in the past two years. The setbacks COSCO suffered in the third party logistics market made people realize that even in inland cities, the competition in the third party logistics market which supplies service to small and medium-sized businesses is still very intense ( as is pointed out in this thesis, this is a market which equals complete competition ).It has some unique characteristics which were unknown to people .The starting point of this paper is how to find out the real significance of the market in a variety of concepts and how to comprehend the real meaning of theories and apply them into the practice of guiding logistics .In the first chapter , the author analyses the developing process of the third party logistics in Western countries (U.S) and inland China . After this are statements about the four notable characteristics which modem logistics possesses----alliance relationship, contract logistics, personalized service and the widespread application of information science. This chapter also gives a clear definition of information science. This chapter also gives a clear definition of the third party logistics and provides with us a guide function. Logistics business such as transport, storage and loading themselves all belong to conventional business. Thus, for a long time, how to reduce cost in this field and make it "the source of the third profit "has been neglected by enterprises. Hence, modern theories of logistics undoubtedly has its own "outdated" aspects. The last concepts of this chapter, therefore, is how to implement the theory of supplying chain administration in logistics practice. The last part of this chapter alsofocuses...
