Zhou Enlai is a great proletariat diplomat as well as a great revolutionary. He had done lot of effective and pioneering works for the diplomacy of new china and won it a high international position ad prestige. In fact, on the eve and at the early period of liberation, he devoted himself, together with Mao Zedong, to formulating basic diplomatic policies and principles for our new country. After the foundation of the People's Republic of China, Zhou Englai, as a policymaker, commander and executive, was the one who had contributed more to our diplomatic course than anyone else. During his diplomatic career, Zhou Enlai formed particular diplomatic thoughts and style, which absorbed the good qualities of other famous diplomats and at the same time contains its own creative and developped ideas. During the process of relaxation of the Sino-U.S relations, his outstanding diplomatic thoughts and honest style were clearly reflected. Here in this article, I'll inquire into these two aspects briefly. It can be divided into three parts:Part one: The historical observation of the relaxation of the Sino-U.S. relations. It mainly contains the historical ground, the information about the relaxation, the act of both sides, Kissinger's secret visit to China, Nicoson's visit to China and the setting up of liaison department in the opposite side. This part aims to give a clear account of the historical process and also Zhou Enlai's performance at that period of time.Part two: The analysis of the contents of Zhou Enlai's diplomatic thoughts. This part mainly probes into three aspects: the origin the contents and the realistic spirit of his diplomatic thoughts. As to thecontents, four aspects concerned with the subject will be discussed. l)Maintaining independence and keeping the initiative in our own hands is the basic diplomatic standpoint of the People's Republic of China; 2)Taking the Five Principles of Peaceful coexistence as the basic principles to set up new national and international order; 3)Taking "seeking common ground while reserving differences" policy as the guiding principle and basic method to conduct international relations; 4) The diplomatic tactics such as acting according to circumstance, making use of every bit of time, etc.Part three: Zhou Enlai's diplomatic style. In summary it can be described as: treating people with due respect, neither inferiorlynor superiorly; convicting people by reasoning instead of imposing one's own view on others; treating people sincerely and upholding firm stand.
