The voice for China's turning into a "world factory" has become increasingly strong around the globe as the share of the country's economic gross and foreign trade volume in the world economy keeps rising, and it has therefore become the focus of our concerns how to proactively and rationally deal with the new round of strategic transfer and restructuring of the international manufacturing industry. The thesis tries hard by combining theories with practices to discuss the development strategy to be adopted for the Chinese manufacturing industry faced with the new situation, and to systematically study the evolution of the "world factory", the current trend of the international manufacturing industry and the opportunities and challenges before the Chinese manufacturing sector. The thesis is divided into three major parts by the order and content of the studies it embodies. Part I focuses on the characters of the "world factory", which sums up the rules of international moves of the manufacturing industry based on a review of the emergence, evolution and transfer of the "world factory", points out through elaborations on labor resources, rapidly expanding markets, economic system reforms and China's strong industries that China still has a long way to go to become a real world factory, and discusses the possibility for China to become the world factory. Part II mainly analyzes the current situation and trend of the international manufacturing industry in the postindustrial times based on the data of recent years. Taking into account the changes in the industry after China's accession to WTO, Part II also analyzes based on comparisons the position problems of China's manufacturing industry facing the transfer of the international manufacturing industry in the new century. In Part III, the author puts forth his views regarding the development strategy and countermeasures of China's manufacturing industry based on summarizing and learning from relevant research results in the academic circle and the industry at home and abroad. Based on the three parts the author comes to the following conclusion: China must grasp the opportunities brought to it after its entry into WTO to minimize the negative impacts of the entry on its manufacturing industry, strive for accelerated adjustment of its industrial structure, make great effort to develop industries enjoying more advantages, speed up the technological innovation and enhance the product development capability of Chinese enterprises, implement new-type industrialization, drive the informatization throughout manufacturing enterprises, expedite the execution of the opening up strategy, and promote the growth of large enterprises possessing international competitiveness. |
