With Mainland China's official accession to the World Trade Organization on Dec. 11th, 2001, Taiwan also became a formal member of the WTO in the name of "China Taipei" on the New Year's Day of 2002, The entry to the WTO of both the two sides of Taiwan Strait provides favorable new opportunities to the development of economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, which will not only greatly promote the common economic development of the two parties, especially the development of the foreign economy and trade, but also provides numerous business opportunities to the cooperation between the two sides in trade, investment and industry.Judging from the fact, the investment cost of labor and land in Taiwan Island had been on the continuous increase in recent years. Plus the turbulent situation caused by the political chaos, most of the enterprises, including traditional and hi-tech industries, were intending to move out of Taiwan. On the other hand, the economy of the Mainland had achieved a sustainable growth and the market potential is large enough. Therefore, many of the Taiwan business people chose the Mainland as the first choice for their investment, and launched a new trend of investing in Mainland, which resulted in the change of investment structure, scale and mode. How to view this investment, trend and how to seize this opportunity become an important issue, which is need to be studied and resolved.This article firstly reviewed the history of investing in Mainland China by Taiwan business people, making an analysis on the background, cause of and the historical role played by the Taiwan investment. The second part of the article made a discussion mainly on the impact on the Taiwan investment in Mainland by China' s entry into the WTO and the new trend of Taiwan investment after China' s WTO accession. The third part of this article brought out ways in which Taiwan investment could be better attracted. The fourth part of this article analyzed the historical development, characteristics, problem exist and opportunities of Taiwan investment in Qingdao, and on that basis, made an in-depth discussion on how to strengthen the work of attracting Taiwan investment to Qingdao.
