The Democratic Centralism of Mao Zedong Thought, Which is one of an important part of Mao Zedong's democratic thought, was formed a long time ago. It is based on the following three parts: First, democratic and central thoughts which existed before Marx and Engel's; Second, the democratic centralism thoughts of Marx and Engel's; Third, Lenin's development to democratic centralism. We have traversed a tortuous course to develop our Party's democratic Centralism and Mao Zedong gave a distinguished contribution to it. It generally experienced four periods: formation, development, suffering from destroy and continuation and improvement. The author probes into Mao Zedong thought of democratic centralism in four parts. Part One covers the connotation and substance of democratic centralism. Mao Zedong once pointed out that democratic centralism was the unity of two somewhat similar conflicting things as democracy and centralism. It is centralism on the basis of democracy with democracy under centralized guidance. Its essential is that the democracy is developed fully and adhere to politic discipline of minority is subordinate to the majority and the part is subordinate to the whole. Part two covers the dialectical relation between democracy and centralism. Mao Zedong believed that on one hand democracy and centralism are contradictory to each other, but on the other hand they can unify each other. The contradiction between democracy and centralism lies in the fact that they have their own connotation and so that they are restricted by each other to some degree. The dialectical unity of the two lies in the fact that they always depend on each other and supplement each other. Part three covers the purpose and significance of democratic centralism. Mao Zedong believed that only by practicing democratic centralism could we enhance the Party's cohesion and fighting capacity and ensure that our Party is forever the core of leadership in Chinese history. And only by practicing democratic centralism can we bring the party members' enthusiasm into full play and assure the success of revolution and reconstruction.Part Four covers the basic principles of democratic centralism ,such as" four obedience ","five fearless spirits " ,"three principles of'cannot'"and"be against of individual worship". The basic methods are as follows: leaders and masses integration, unity of collective leadership and individual responsibility, criticism and self-criticism and from masses to masses. To learn and grasp the main contents of democratic centralism of MaoZedong thought and at the same time master and apply its basic principles and methods can contribute to the summarization of experience and failure in our history, improve and perfect all kinds of systems of democratic centralism and strengthen Party building.
