In the past two decades, Hong Kong has been the most important investment sourceof Mainland, of course, including Beijing. The Mainland and Hong Kong CloserEconomic Partnership Arrangement, signed on June 23rd, 2003, will provide Beijingand Hong Kong with more opportunities and challenges. Both Beijing and HongKong play very important roles because of their strategic status and particularadvantages. Therefore, this thesis, which is about how to attract investment fromHong Kong, is theoretic and practical.This thesis embraces three parts:Firstly, it introduces the theories of the foreign direct investment (FDI). This partpresents briefly that many kinds of theories about the FDI in order to explain why itoccurred.Secondly, it studies the impact of the FDI on the developing countries. Mainly, fromcapital forming, industrial structure upgrading, technology advancing, internationaltrade, balance of payments and employment, it sets forth the positive and negativeimpact of the FDI on the developing countries.Finally, and the most important part of this thesis, it analyzes at length the history andstatus quo of Hong Kong investment in Beijing. Hereby, this part puts forward theindustry direction of cooperation between Hong Kong and Beijing (mostly HongKong investment in Beijing) and how to bring it into effect.
