After the normalization of diplomatic relations, the Sino-Japan relation has experienced the renewal period in 1970, the development period in 1980 and the fluctuation period in 1990. Now, in the 21st century, the relation comes into a new period of stable development. In each period of bilateral economy and trade relation, there were promoting forces and impeding factors which were from other periods, the most important of which was decisive function caused by the different economic development situations of the two nations. This paper analyzes and comments the main factors that influenced Sino-Japan economic relation in different periods, then sums up and explains the status quo of Sino-Japan economic relation from the aspects of bilateral trade, investment in China, official aid and other cooperation.There are clashes and problems in the development of Sino-Japan economy and trade relation, the clashes are mainly as follows: (1) the deterioration of trade frictions; (2) the disputes over RMB exchange rate; (3) the discrimination treatment of products Japan exports to China; (4) the different opinions on promoting the East-Asian economic cooperation and; (5) the contradiction and competition in the energy fields, etc. The main reasons that deteriorated the bilateral economic frictions include: (1) the long-time depression caused the stronger trade protectionism in Japan; (2) the political influence in Japan; (3) the inharmony of bilateral political relation; (4) the negative effects of the "China Menace Theory"; (5) the concurrent energy supply shortage and conflict of both nations; (6) the limitation of policy coordination and negotiation mechanism and (7) the negative effects of bilateral public opinion guidance.Although there exists dangerous "China Menace Theory" in Japan and that brings about negative influence on the Sino-Japan economic relation, this paper is to prove that mutual supplement and mutual benefit are more than competition at present.The promoting factors that benefit the bilateral economy and trade relations are being reinforced, thus impelling further development of Sino-Japan economic relation.In the end, this paper puts forward suggestions on how to develop and improve Sino-Japan economic relation.
