As an advanced style of organization and technique, logistics has been highlighted in the development of global economy. Transportation is an essential part of logistics and the concept of logistics is the extension of it. Facing the increasing customer demands and intensifying market competition, traditional transport industries should take the important opportunity of developing modern logistics services. Presently, domestic railway, waterway and highway transport industries are seeking their own ways to develop logistics.This thesis is supposed to deal with this issue. Chapter one is a summarized introduction of transportation and logistics. It also analyzes the development situation of logistics in transportation industries both inside and outside, as well as the driving forces and obstacles in china. A modified model of logistics service market is presented in chapter two and is used to analyze the supply and demand situations of logistics market in domestic railway, waterway and highway transportation industries. Chapter three is mainly concerned about industry investigation and comparison. First, transportation modes are analyzed on their technological and economic characteristics. Then, these transport industries are interpreted with the structure-conduct-performance model of industry economics.Based on above stated chapters, intense analysis is made in chapter four on the advantages and disadvantages of those industries in developing logistics. In chapter five, the author provides instructive advices on how to select an appropriate logistic service market to those transport industries according to their individual characteristics, and also put forward some effective suggestions for domestic railway, waterway and highway transport enterprises about developing logistics, as well as industry supervisors in administration affairs.
