France is the first western power which has established a diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with the People's Republic of China since 1964. It is one of the most developed capitalist countries, and holds the balance of power in the world. China is the biggest developing country in the world. And it's also one of the few remaining socialist countries. In May 1995, Jacques Chirac was elected as the president of France. Since then, the Sino-French relations have entered into a new stage with a full-round development. Based on the historical facts and combining with the current international backgrounds, this dissertation analyses the development patterns of Sino-French relations, and predicts its future development, which will not only further the friendship and cooperation between the two sides, but also will do good to the peace and stability of the whole world. The dissertation has five parts:The first part is the review of Sino-French relations before Chirac came into power, focusing on the historical developments of bilateral relations from January 1964 to May 1995.The second part focuses the development process of the bilateral relations under the Chirac administration, combining the analysis of the international situations, the different internal contexts and foreign policy of both sides.Based upon the above two parts, the third part analyses the characteristics of the Sino-French relations of the Chirac administration, which include: the smooth development based on dialogue, the head diplomacy playing an important role, and the frequent and flourishing cultural exchanges. The fourth part further analyses the reasons and patterns of the developments of bilateral relations, which include two aspects: one is the foundation of cooperation between the two sides (the political, economic, military, and cultural factors), theother is about the constraint factors of the bilateral relations------Taiwan issue, human rights, trade, and Tibet issue etc.The last part forecasts and predicts the prospects of the Sino-French relations. It argues that the key factor for the further development of Sino-French relations is the economic and trade relations, the scale and extent of which will decide the height of their "full-round strategic partnership" relations, and are the base and momentum of the development of the bilateral relations.
