This essay is to discuss the activities of NGOs and thereafter, their influence oninternational conflicts. After the Cold War, NGOs are involved deeply in the field ofSenior Politics, in which performing much more in international conflicts can be aglaring expression. Comparing with the conflicts happened before, those that took outafter the Cold War had different forms and characters. Moreover, the peacefulsettlement measures changed, and the concept of safety also varied. All thesechanging situations with close ties to the international conflicts helped a lot in NGOs'participating in those conflicts.Within this kind of background, NGOs continue to carry forward the efforts onhumanitarian assistance, which belongs to their traditional orbit and is often neglectedby sovereign nations or governmental organizations. More that that, NGOs also showout their abilities in the fields of early warning and preventive measures, intermediation and negotiation in conflicts, which attract much attention from theinternational community. However, their influence in these two fields is controversial, and their activities are less than those in other fields. But it doesn't mean that NGOsare not important in these fields. Instead, there is more space for NGOs to developtheir activities in these fields, which can be detected from the increasing impact ofand attention to NGOs. Especially in the aspect of reconstruction and governanceafter conflicts, NGOs can give full play to their own advantages as useful supplementto UN's Peacekeeping Missions. They can largely promote the reconstruction ofsocieties in the post-conflict period. On the whole, the international community hasadmitted and affirmed the impact of NGOs in the field of reconstruction.Although they have strengthened their abilities involving in the international conflicts,NGOs still need certain conditions to be truly effective. Moreover, the role of NGOsin such conflicts is also restrained. In fact, only when sovereign nations orgovernmental organizations will not or cannot interfere in the conflicts can NGOsplay their role, which, anyway, is not the key one because of their lack of great power. Therefore, it is necessary for NGOs to have a clear objective review of their ownstatus, and from which launch their activities.
