Council Of Europe And The European Integration Process

European Union is a regional cooperative organization with the highest level of integration, which has made noticeable achievements in cooperation of economy, politics and security. The European Council was founded in 1974, now it is the highest decision-making institution. During over 30 years history, the European Council has put forward the deepening and development of European Union, acted as the gatekeeper and protector, which occupies a pivotal position in the history of development of European Union. But there are few books about the European Council in china, and our academic circles put little attention on this institution. This thesis will make up this regret and talk about the history of foundation and development, including the development of functions and achievements of European Union under the leadership of the European Council, proving the positive role the European Council has played on the European integration by citing historical materials. Meanwhile, the thesis will analyze the characteristics of the European Council different with the other institutions of European Union and the relations with these institutions.
