Gulf War was the first hot war after the Cold War, the United States took immediate military and foreign action to establish an international ally. The United States also get the Souviet Union`s support. When the military preparation is over. The United States attack the Iraq and Iraq was defeated easily. The Gulf War has great impacts on the international community. From then on, the Iraq was under United Nation`s severe sanction. So the United States established a situation in Gulf areas under its control. China was a power at that time but it had only a little national interests there. So China payed a litter attention to the Gulf War.With the rapid economic growth, China became a net oil importer in 1993. After that China imported more and more oil each year and most of which were from Gulf countries. So China payed more and more attention to the Gulf situation and played and played a very important role in keeping regional peace of Gulf. After the September 11th terrorists` attack, US president Bush ranked the Iraq and Iran as two of the three"evil axis"countries. Iraq was the first goal of the US, so she overthrew Sadam's government and took possession of Iraq. This would have great negative influence of China's national interests, particularly in energy. So China, together with France and Russia was eager to keep Persian Gulf′s peace and stability, and opposed the US war policy against Iraq. We have to confess that China wasn't strong enough to prevent the US from attacking Iraq or change the result of the war. But China supported the policy of coping with the problem through talk and negotiation, this would be a great help to build up China's international imagination. China used its action to tell the world that China was a peaceful and responsible power. China supported the principle of"peace and development". When the US is still on its way of unilateralism, China is more and more a stable power in international system. If China can use this principle carefully, this can be transformed into national interests, and these interests will be long-term and strategic.
