This thesis is to explore the development of Common Foreign and Security Policy of EU from the perspective of Europeanization. Specifically, it will focus on the meaning, manifestation, influence, problems and direction of future development of the Europeanization of this pillar through an analysis of the interaction and development of and between CFSP and the foreign policy and politics of its member states, with the a view to deepening our understanding of Europeanization of CFSP.This thesis argues that CFSP is experiencing a process of Europeanization, which will have a far-reach impact on European Political Cooperation. On the one hand, with the growing of EU's military strength, the European feature in its foreign and security fields is becoming increasingly prominent; on the other hand, the development of CFSP and the requirements of political cooperation at the EU level have driven member states to adjust their institutions, regimes, policies etc. to adapt to the changes for reform at the EU level. In this regard, the process of European transformation has embodied a phenomenon of Europeanization. The critical way for further development of the Europeanization of CFSP as well as the European integration is to foster a collective identity in Europe, which can be deemed as a process in which member states gradually transfer their national sovereignty to finally unite in foreign and security issues. Therefore, the real challenge for the Europeanization of CFSP is not simply to build an effective institution, but whether the major EU member states can reach a common political decision to stimulate the development of the pillar.
