The discussion on the theory of the public sphere is a hot topic in today's academia. Arendt , Harbermas and Ackerman's theory of the public sphere represent three fundamental Models of the Western theory of the public sphere. Arendt for the first time refines the concept of"the public sphere"from the ancient Greece City-state politics . And her unique perspective to the theory of the public sphere provides a rich ideological resources of the research of the public sphere .It is also universally acknowledged that she did make her own contribution to harbermas's theory of the public sphere .Then where did Arendt's concept of"the public sphere"come from? Why did she refine this concept? Why did she attach such importance to it? What did the public sphere actually means? How can Arendt's theory of the public sphere fit in with China's realities? And, how do we analyze Arendt's concept of the public sphere from the perspective of Marxist philosophy? In order to answer these problems, this paper has combed the inner relationship between Arendt's concept of"the public sphere"and her understanding of the human beings and explored the origin and background of the concept, how can Arendt's theory oppose totalitarianism, Arendt's theory of the public sphere in the Perspective of Marxist philosophy , the meaning of Arendt's theory of the public sphere for Chinese democratic society today and so on. According to Arendt's understanding of human being , the state of the survival is the base of the interpretation of her theory of the public sphere. Arendt's theory of the public sphere opposed the totalitarianism. At the same time, by exploring Arendt's theory of the public sphere from the perspective of Marxist philosophy, we can find the existence and the potential shortcomings of the theory.In the end, we analyze the meaning of Arendt's theory of the public sphere for the construction of Chinese socialist democracy.
