Geographic status, economy, history, nation and religion are the main variables which affect national security in geographic environment. In order to ensure national security, any nation undoubtedly seeks to control crucial geographic space in the hope of constructing or establishing its own security area or security pivot, which shows that Geo-political nature of competition is at the core.Color Revolution poses a great challenge to Russian security. The traditional policy that Russia defends national security via constructing buffer zones cannot be carried out any longer at present due to Color Revolution, which occurred in the area of Commonwealth Independent State(CIS) and resulted in the fact that buffer zones of Russia have been broken up in geography. The fracture zones exist in these areas below: Baltic Sea region, Ukraine-the Black Sea region, Less Caucasus region. Therefore, buffer zones defending Russian security are no longer a coherent whole. The west countries led by the USA take advantage of this chance to enter these regions and extend impact to the edge of the territory of Russia, extruding the strategic space of Russia.Russia tries to construct nation group against Color Revolution. In view of the traditional security notion and gradual recovery of national power, Russia has started the attempt to restore influence on CIS, supported by the four regional organizations dominated by the Russia in CIS, as well as the ties with former Soviet Union Republics in energy, nation and history. Meanwhile, these states have been treated differently as the result of pro-west Color Revolution occurred in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan. Supporting and depending on the pro-Russia states, Russia constructs lines of defense of its core layer and brim layer and takes measures to impede the steps towards west group. Beyond the boundary, Russia hopes to build the"arc of stability"linking the Russia-Central Asia-China to deal with the expansion of western power. At home, president Putin strengthens strict control on other parties and issues laws which restrict NGO activities to wipe out the internal conditions which maybe incur Color Revolution. The wave of Color Revolution has extended to other states of CIS. Beside this, these counties might be the next one where Color Revolution would take place, considering the authoritarian ruling conditions. But the prospect of Russian geopolitics is not pessimistic. Its economic potential, national characteristic and security notion encourage it to pursue the status of a great power.
