The growing interdependence between nations, big and sma ll, strong and powerless,lea ves little room for their use of hard power in current internationa l politics. Meanwhile,along with China's rapid ly increasing comprehensive power, various nega tive factors,which have existed in China's diploma tic environment for a long time emerges andrequires China's more attention to its soft power build ing. The proposing of the idea of"Harmonious World", as the reflection of the current Chinese culture and value in theinternationa l politica l thought, is not only the establishing of the guiding ideology forChina's diplomacy, but also important public goods China offers to the internationa lcommunity. The idea of"Harmonious World", which indica tes the soft power in terms ofcultural values, and guides the current soft power build ing in China, is a systematicinternationa l politica l thought with Chinese characteristics. This is the natural integratingpoint between the idea of"Harmonious World"and China's soft power build ing, on whichthis paper is based. On one hand, this paper conducts an analysis of the background of theidea of"Harmonious World", its sources, connotation and significa nce, on the other hand,based on the research on the current situation of China's soft power, this paper discussesmore on how the idea of"Harmonious World"would guide China's soft power build ing inthe future, centering on three perspectives, namely, strengthening the influence of Chineseculture and values in the world, gaining more recognition of China's development modelfrom other nations, and improving China's nationa l ima ge by proactive foreign policies.
