Construction Of Soft Power In China's Peaceful Development

As the cold war came to its end and the globalization increasingly sped up, the interdependency among countries deepened. The national power in its traditional concept has been changing. One should not define the national power only in terms of military power and economic power. Some new factors, such as a nation's values, culture, capability of contriving and regulating, etc, are becoming the resources of national power. And a nation's rise is the rise of its comprehensive power which contains both soft power and the hard one.The concept of soft power now still doesn't reach a consensus. So this thesis firstly analyzes the notion of soft power and the country's soft power, and its meaning of research included.The construction of Chinese socialist has made great achievements since the opening and reform. China contributes a lot to the development and peace of the world. But some western countries dishes out a theory called"China threat", which think the development of China will impact the current stability of international system. The leadership of China decides the path of peaceful development. China swears that it will adhere the path of peaceful development many times. Chinese path of peaceful development includes two aspects: building a harmonious internal society and building a harmonious world by its efforts. That needs China must handle its internal affairs and some related international affairs better. Chinese peaceful development is an aspect of soft power, and it needs that China upgrades its soft power, too. China has made a lot of achievements of soft power in recent years. Apparently, there are some defects of the construction of Chinese soft power. In future, we should not only reserve hard power, but also strengthen soft power. China should upgrade its soft power from many aspects as follows: the influence of political values, culture, capability of contriving and regulating, the charming of China's leadership and people, etc. The core of soft power is strengthening internal cohesion and expanding international influence.This thesis has three parts: the preface, text and conclusion. There are four branches in the text part.The first branch mainly generalizes the meaning, the elements, the characteristics and the significance of soft power.The second branch outlines the main content of China's peaceful development, and points out that China's peaceful development needs the support of soft power from theoretical basis,the requirements of the times and historical experience and lessons. Specifically, it can help China to create a peaceful environment; to enhance national strength; and to promote socialist harmonious society and building a harmonious world.The third branch generalizes a lot of achievements of China's soft power which has been made, and points out the current defects. Achievements are as follows: the expansion of cultural influence passed the idea of peaceful development; the government has increased the ability to resolve matters at home and abroad; China dedicated some international ideas which follows peace and development; we promoted the establishment of a platform of peace and development by innovating international mechanism and we created a good national image. These facilitated the process of peaceful development. But, there are still many issues of Chinese soft power, which impact the building of the socialist harmonious society and a harmonious world.The fourth branch focuses on the construction of China's soft power in future from five factors. Firstly, we must aware the importance of the construction of soft power fully, and balance the development of soft power and hard power. Secondly, we must adhere to the guidance of the scientific outlook on development, and develop the elements of power coordinately. And the third, we must construct Chinese discourse system which has international significance to enhance our voice in the world. Fourthly, we should provide more public goods for the international community, including material goods and non-material goods. And the last, People should promote the construction of soft power consciously; and the government should fully promote Chinese Non-governmental Organization play its role in the international community. Additionally China must solve several major issues which impact the path of peace and development. Apparently, this is the theme of the whole thesis.
