Democratic socialism is the ideology system that Socialist Party,Social Democratic Party and Lobour Party in Contemporary Capitalist Countries. Democratic socialism is the common theory and practise that the parties deal with social contraditions and political problems.It promotes diverse guiding ideologies,reformism path.And the revolution aim is not to overthrow of the capitalist system,but to realize the value of freedom, equality, mutual aid.Since the policy of reform and opening-up,the thoughts of democratic socialism have gained twice extensive spread .So it is necessary to seriously study the the nature and content of democratic socialism and to draw a clear distinction between democratic socialism and scientific socialism.This will be contribute to uphold the guiding role of Marxism and adhere to the road of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.This thesis is to explore and analyze the ideological origins,the historical evolution and the essence in vertical and horizontal of democratic socialism.The paper includes three parts.Chapter one argues that the main ideological origins:one is Christian Ethics, humanitarian and classical philosophy.One is modern western liberalism and utopian socialism.the part also summarizes three stages of evolution and state clearly the ins and outs of the democratic socialism.Chapter two summarizes the the main schools of socialism.On this basis this part deeply explores fundamental ideas in different socialist schools which includes world views,values,views of state,welfare,politics,economy,democracy.Anyhow,this part reveal comprehensively the connotation of the democratic socialism and dialectically analyzes the fundamental ideas in materialistic point of view to master the the essential nature of the democratic socialism.Chapter three analyze the nature of democratic socialism in horizontal.This paper argues that democratic socialism is a non-marxist of socialist schools and is the opposite of scientific socialism.The contrasts includes:First is the difference from the guiding ideology.Second is the thought for social development which includes the fundamental driving forces,goals, the aim and outcome and the approach.Third is the attitude towards a capitalist system. The conclusions of this article is that democratic socialism is different from scientific socialism.The pattern of democratic socialism is not fit for China. The road of building socialism with Chinese characteristics is the only right path in contemporary China.
