With the peaceful end of Cold War and the strong impact of globalization boom, countries all over theworld are faced with a common background of social transformation. In the past 30 years, manycountries have carried out the political democracy liberalization reforms, during which time aworld-wide integration of economy and trade is occurring. Market economy requires a free democracysystem for development. Thailand, which a transformation from authoritarian regime into constitutionalregime, it gains both a good political and social environment for its economic development. Tradeliberalization and economic integration require freedom and democracy in its political system andconstitutionalism is the guiding principle for the country to develop toward political democratization, for it brings the country a relaxed and free environment and democratic system. Constitutionalismactually provides a series of public goods, such as democracy, development and human rights. It is of much significance in researching on the economic functions of the constitutionalism in Thailand. This thesis is going to discuss about the action mode and influence mechanism of the economicfunction in Thai constitutionalism, with elaboration made from various perspectives of history anddemonstration etc. With the economic development in Thailand, the social differentiation is become increasingly severeand conflicts between different social classes take place frequently. A few big cities, with Bangkok asthe representative, saw the generation of the vested interest class amid the development of emergingindustries. The appearance of emerging industrial groups breaks up the original interest structure.Fundamentally, the influence mechanism that Thailand has on economy is through balancing theinterest between different social classes, so as to focus on social stability and economic development. The conflicts of interest between different classes rooted from imbalance of economic development. Aslong as Thailand can have a balanced model of economic development and reasonable way for incomedistribution in order to lead to a equal sharing in social resource, the conflicts of interest betweendifferent social classes will be mitigated and all of the classes will strive hard to promote the economicdevelopment. The popularization and implementation of constitutionalism can provide a stable andfreely competitive environment for the economic development and to some extent can remove theconflicts between different social classes.Thai constitutionalism mainly influences the economy through playing tow major roles; one is todirectly adjusting the economic laws and regulations to promote economic growth. Socio-economicbehavior should be incorporated into the practice of constitutionalism, i.e. the constitutional framework.Socio-economic institutional arrangements, particularly countries participating in the economic action, must come from a constitutional arrangement, rather than"free actions"of the country.Constitutionalism is able to provide a set of economic orders which are consistent with the constitution, while behind those action orders is the agreement, authorization and support of social contract. Withinthe constitutional framework, it can reach an organic balance between freedom and liberalism;liberalism is protected, and the country will come across constitutional constraints when adoptingintervention. The second role is to influence the systematic environment which influences theeconomic factors: to stimulate peoples'creativity through influencing the human, legal and socialenvironment, thus promote those economic factors to maximize their own potential and effect.
