Competition and consumer protection law are two indispensable legal departments to ensure market economy functioning effectively. They are quite different from each other in philosophy and the dimensionality and emphasis of the market they regulate, leading to ignorance of their relationship. Market is an integral whole unity, and the relationship between competition and consumer protection law cannot be broke up only because of the division of legal departments. Consumers are vulnerable as a result of the externalities of competing behaviors. So it's high time that we realized the relationship between competition and consumer protection law so as to enliven the self-recovery mechanism of the market to protect consumers more effectively by institutional innovation. Competition and consumer protection law are intimately related, two sides of the same coin of consumer choice and hence economic justice and collaboration of the two is an inevitable choice. There are two modes of the collaboration: legislation integration and institution integration. Which mode should China adopt? Given China's actual conditions, it's practical to realize the collaboration of competition and consumer protection law by improving relevant institutions and by establishing an institution or a mechanism which is supposed to harmonize the institutions of the two legal departments. The body of this thesis is divided into three parts. Chapter 1 will analyze the differences in the conception of consumer, the dimensionality and emphasis of the market they regulate and the interests they protect in order to explore the necessity of collaboration between the two legal departments. Chapter 2 will research on the basis of collaboration by using legal and economic theories. Chapter 3 will analyze, compare and differentiate the models of collaboration and to table a constructive proposal for our country. This thesis will adopt comparative, historical and legal research approaches to illustrate relevant issues.
