Education is fundamental to the long-term strategy of the nation. Education is the cornerstone of national revitalization and social progress. It is the basic channel by which to raise the character of the citizenry and promote the people’s overall development. It carries with it the ideal of the common people to realize their self-worth through hard work and study. And teachers, as the “engineers of the human soul,” as well as education leaders in the field of education, all play a critical role in the field of education. The quality of teachers plays a key role in this field, directly affecting the quality of education. A strong nation must first have strong teachers. If a nation wants to have high-quality education, improving the character of the teachers is especially important. Therefore, the teaching profession, currently on the rise, has again caught the attention of the people. As a developed country on the international stage, Australia’s education can be considered as world-class. Australia realized a long time ago the importance of teacher quality to education and to the nation. In 1974, the nation launched a training program for the development of the teaching profession, establishing various methods and channels through which to promote such development, and forming a world-class development model for the TAFE Institute teaching profession. By analyzing the particular situation of the development of the TAFE teaching profession and drawing inspiration from its success, this article hopes to “use the stone from the other mountain to make fine jade,” and provide a useful reference for the development of the People’s Republic of China’s vocational education teaching profession. The article is divided into five parts. The first part is the preface, which puts forward the research questions addressed in this article and summarizes the current state of research in this area. It explains the significance and goals of this article’s research, introduces the research methods used, and defines TAFE and related concepts. The second part discusses the development of the TAFE teaching profession. This chapter introduces the reasons for the rise of TAFE and the history of its development. The evolution of the TAFE teaching profession can roughly be divided into three stages: the beginning stage, the developing stage, and the perfection stage. The third part concerns the theoretical foundation of the TAFE teaching profession’s development, mainly introducing three types of professional development theories: attention stage theory, teacher employee life-cycle theory, and constructivist education theory. The fourth part relates to the practice of Australia’s TAFE teacher development. This chapter principally introduces the standards of Australia’s TAFE teacher development, thereby giving a more specific picture of the current situation. These standards include Certificate IV(which ensures that hiring qualifications are met), the national training package, and competency-based training(CBT).The fifth and final part discusses how the Australian TAFE teacher development program can serve as an inspiration for the People’s Republic of China. Through the above investigation into the successes of this program, the author hopes to suggest lessons which can help to improve the development of China’s vocational education profession.
