The paper deals with the teacher participation in public school decisionmaking in China from theorectical and practical aspects, some strategies are also advocated in this paper. The theory foundation, basic philosophy and Hoy-Tarter model of shared decisionmaking are the theory basis of analysis of teacher participation in school decisionmaking, meanwhile, the practice of western countries and sucessful experiences in some Chinese schools are the practical basis of it. Both the theory and practice suggests that the teacher participation benefits the teachers' activity, the quality and acceptabilty of school decisionmaking, favour the school climate and develop the democratic environment. Our school decisionmaking system is "centralized" which reduces the teachers' participation and results in inefficiency of school management, from this viewpoint, teacher participation is quite necessary and must be emphasized. However, the participation models are various in different contexts and carefully selected. To increase the teacher participation, some measures are suggested: strengthen laws and regulations construction concerned, deepen the school management system reform, increase democratic awareness and participation ability of principals and teachers, promote the theory research etc.
