The world of 21st century is viewing the globalization of economy, the advancement of science and technology, the keen competition among different countries. For China is striving to realize the renaissance of the great Chinese nation, it is of vital importance to improve the education quality of talents, and to quicken the development steps of post-graduate education. Being the highest level of high education, the doctoral education is gaining more and more importance. This is particularly true of China, as China is struggling to construct the first-class universities with the world standards. Actually, it becomes imperative to know how to improve the education quality of Doctors as to narrow the gap between China's doctorate education and that of some developed countries. To study other countries' and areas' experience, gains and losses, and problems on this field will help China improve its work.Like China, the doctoral education of Hong Kong was also transplanted from abroad. On its way of development, it studied the experience of some developed countries for reference and then localized it with creativity. Consequently it developed the doctoral education with the unique Hong Kong characteristic, which gave great impetus to the development of Hong Kong society. As is known to all, to study the practice and experience of others' is always beneficial. This research is focused on the model of Hong Kong's doctoral education. Hopefully, it will be some of help for the further study of Hong Kong's doctoral education and for the improvement on present situation of inland China's doctoral education.The model of doctoral education mentioned in the thesis refers to the structure of knowledge, ability and quality constructed for doctor students according to the development law of .talents of higher level, and the operational mode of the structure. The model is composed of four important elements: educating aim, educating subject, educating object and educating ways.The doctoral education of Hong Kong went through three stages, namely the stage of transplantation, the stage of reference, the stage of surpassing. The factors for the changes involves academy, politics and economy. The transfer of the stages was accompanied by the awakening of nativism and nationalism of Hong Kong natives. Currently the educational institutions responsible for educating doctors can be classified into three types: complex universities, science and technology universities and humanity universities. The universities employ two management styles respectively, British style and American style.Hong Kong's doctoral education can be divided into three models--research-oriented model, profession-oriented model and application-oriented model. The emergence and development of each one was decided by the NEEDS of the society, and was the reflection of the uses of a university. By analyzing the four basic elements of each model, one can discover that there is no clear-cut difference between them, they also share certain similarities which shows the inheritance and the surpassing from the latter to the former. In general, the model of Hong Kong's doctoral education shows the features of being open, being diversified, being adaptable, being flexible, being international, which offers a frame of reference for the related reforms in inland China.
