The Problem Of Poverty Of The Rural Elderly Women

With the advent of the aging society and the increasing number of the women staying in rural areas during the course of non-agriculturation, the poverty problems of the rural old women are increasingly prominent. The related sociological research is mainly about the old women or the rural old people. The articles which discuss systematically the poverty problems of the rural old women, especially in He Nan, are very scarce. So, by means of investigation on the old women in Gang Cun, the author applies the capital theories and the social gender perspective to discuss thoroughly their living poverty.In the first part of this thesis, the author analyzes the theories concepts and methods. The thesis primarily employs the theories of boarder's cultural capital, social capital and social gender perspective to probe thoroughly the old women poverty. In the meantime , the author does the full physical research about Gang Cun community, including the Christian church and geracomium by way of the qualitative research.The second part elaborately describes the rural old women's basic poverty conditions, mainly including material poverty, feeling poverty and mental poverty. The author thinks that this poverty will revolve round the related poverty and mental poverty in the present and the future.The third part discusses the damages resulted from the rural old women poverty. Generally speaking, the poverty do harm to themselves, their children, the family and the society.The forth part analyses the causes of the old women poverty. These reasons are resulted from not only the government and community but also the family and personal characteristics.The last part is the countermeasures and thoughts. The author suggests that we should emphasis theoretically and practically the ideology of gender quality, increase the rural women's educational investment, so as to enhance the old women's cultural capital, develop the rural women's social support so as to enhance the old women's social capital. At the same time, by intervening social work, we should emphasis mutual action between the poor and the government to encourage the old women to get rid of their poverty.
