This article first rescans the fact of department instruction on Chinese Language and Chinese Literature in middle school and believes that Chinese Language Education can be separated into two branches: Chinese Language teaching, Chinese Literature teaching. Chinese Language teaching should take the application of language itself as its basis, the language practice of students main body as its center, the promotion of students' abilities in listening, speaking, reading, writing as its main object. It must be guided by knowledge system of language application and emphasize language practice, put its utility in the first place. Chinese Literature teaching should give students a basic knowledge of the most important and original writers and their works in ancient China and contemporary days. Meanwhile, students fundamental ability of reading and analyzing literature should be developed during the process of Chinese Literature teaching, which takes the classic writers and their works as its core, emphasizes students' feeling and tastes.Then this article analyzes the value of taking Chinese Language and Chinese Literature as two branches in today's Chinese Language Education. It also compares this kind of department instruction with overseas mother tongue teaching and figures its feasibility. At the end of this article, it solicits that departments concerned could do some experiments according to the department instruction and gives some conceptions on it.
