The 21st century is the knowledge economy age, every country is scrabbling for talents, especially the high —level creative talents. Our country is implementing the strategy of reinvigorating China through human resource development. However, the training of high—level creative talents depends on the high—level research university, and the research universities in a country have close relationship with its strength of scientific research and comprehensive national power. A country with world —class research university will own the first—class talents and powerful strength of scientific research, then it will enjoy advantageous position in the fierce international competition. In America, research university has a long history of more than 100 years, while China began to develop a group of world—class universities until the end of the 20th century. We still have a long way to go in constructing the world—class research universities in China, and its realization depends on the unceasing efforts of the teaching staff of higher education. But in the process of constructing research university, there are some problems, of which the most serious one is that we unilaterally put emphasis on post—graduate education while neglecting undergraduate education. In the meanwhile, the pattern of talents training fundamentally prescribed the characteristics of talents and generally embodied the thoughts and ideas of higher education. The pattern of talents training plays a very important role in the talents training and exerts great influence on the development of a university. But in China, the research in the pattern of talents training is not in—depth. So the paper chose the pattern of undergraduate talents training in the research university as the object, which is not only meaningful in theoretical research but also positive in practice.The topic will be discussed from five aspects, the auth first analyzed and defined several important definitions in the paper such as research university and the pattern of talents training, etc, meanwhile, the author analyzed the status of undergraduate education in research university; then, the author discussed the pattern of undergraduate talents training in research university from two aspects: the current situation in China and the experience of other countries; in the last two parts, the author discussed how to construct the pattern of undergraduate talents training in research universities on the basis of above analysis, in the forth part, the author firstly discussed the objectives and standards of undergraduate talents training in research universities, then in the fifth part the author analyzed the basic means to cultivate undergraduate talents in research universities and...
