Students' Associations And The Construction Of Harmonious Campus

Constructing a harmonious university campus is an important part in the process of constructing a harmonious socialist society, the latter of which being the strategic task put forward by the Fourth Plenary Session of the Sixteenth Central Committee of CPC. A harmonious university campus helps promote the construction of a harmonious society and in turn, a harmonious society provides a better social background. University students' society works as effective means through which quality-oriented education is carried on. It not only helps enrich campus culture, improve students' people skills and enhance their overall qualities, but also plays an important role in constructing a harmonious campus, which focuses on good people-to-people relations, optimal campus culture, and students' overall development.Chapter 1 defines the concept of a harmonious campus and its features and importance, after looking into the appeals for harmony in prosperous societies in Chinese history and the social background of the proposal of constructing a harmonious socialist society. Starting from the interrelations between students' society and a harmonious campus, Chapter 2 gains an insight into the development of students' society and its modern connotations, introduces the major forms and features of university students' society, emphasizing its important role in the success of constructing a harmonious university campus. In Chapter 3, a survey research is designed and carried out in Wenzhou University to investigate the current situation of students' society, and problems are detected. Chapter 5 finds some key points, principles and measures in handling those problems, and urges an implement of systematic managements of students' society and a better understanding of its importance.This dissertation mainly employs methods such as literature review, case study and questionnaire. Problems are detected in the survey research as follows: insufficient fund and facilities, unbalanced development, improper structure, low-efficient performance and coordination, and lack of sustainability. Aiming to solve the problems and strengthen the vitality of students' society, some measures are proposed thereinafter, such as to mobilize students initiatives and attach importance to students' society; to improve its management and assessment systems and value the importance of teachers' advice; to provide more training opportunity to society managers and improve the performances of students' society, etc. It is believed that efficient students' society could enhance the construction of a harmonious university campus.
