Currently, streaming media service is getting increasingly popular. Streaming media technology has been widely used in journalism, publishing, securities, entertainment, electronic commerce, remote training, video conferencing, distance education, telemedicine and other aspects of Internet Information Services. Recent years, P2P-based streaming media, such as PPLIVE UUSEE, emerge in large numbers. Flash player has a full support for video streaming. Because of the emergence of these new technical elements, traditional C/S streaming systems are being in the Internet.Apple's QuickTime is the first popular streaming media system. Microsoft's Windows Media is one of the most widely used streaming media systems in the world. The above two streaming media systems are typical of C/S streaming media system. so this article analyses communication mechanism of these two streaming media systems in detail, mainly including their communication process and used streaming media file formats. One of objectives of this thesis is simulation of communication mechanism of C/S streaming media system. Therefore it is necessary to construct a simulation platform, where OPENT is selected. Then it introduces the overall structure of the simulation, focusing on the core of this framework - OPENT simulation model parts, such as processing module and queue module. Subsequently, it has a detail description of the simulation implementation in OPENT, data acquisition and preprocessing included, simulates communication mechanism of the two streaming media systems. Finally, the simulation platform is modified, stream-based priority round robin scheduling is added, communication mechanism of the two streaming media systems is simulated again, the next improvement direction is put forward after comparing the two simulation results before and after, a summary of the research and prospects for next research are included. In the front of this article it has a description of the basics of streaming media, network simulation and related simulation software, mainly highlighting the powerful features of the network simulation software OPNET which has rich model libraries for the establishment of the network model that provides a convenient according to customers' need to develop the required model. Now stream service on the Internet is increasing day after day. Increase of network bandwidth further promotes the development of streaming media business. The need of users for the online streaming media service has been greatly increased. Streaming media service will penetrate more deeply into the lives of ordinary people. With the rapid development of information technology and universal access of computer network technology, streaming media technology will be more widely used. Hence, this study has import practical significance and value.
