| “People gathered to hear and tell stories throughout history.†Maybe that is why the narrativetalk shows,which focus on telling stories, became the major type of TV talk shows. In1993, TheOriental Horizon and The Living Space started on television, which marks the appearance ofnarrative talk shows in China. As time goes by, with the development of society and the renewalof perception, people needed a platform to tell their own stories instead of watching thedispassionate and objective TV news.Therefore, more and more narrative TV talk showsemerged.This thesis chooses the conversation strategies of narrative TV talk show as an entry point,focuses on Seeing and Meet the Celebrity, and studies from the theories of communications,journalism, arts of broadcasting and television. Using the theories of narratology, the authorsummarizes the conversation characteristics, the basic types and the conversation modes of theseprograms. The author also researches on the conversation characteristics by discourse analysisand conversational analysis, in order to have an objective knowledge of the conversationstrategies of narrative talk shows, to provide some practical value for TV program production, toprovide some practical laws for language using of the hosts, and to provide some theory andpractice support for the development of Chinese narrative talk show.The Introduction includes the significance of this topic, research overview, theoretical basis,research method and corpus description. The author elaborates the reason of choosing this topic,summarizes the existed researches and the appropriate research method and theoreticalperspective, which lays the foundation of this research. In the first chapter, the author starts withthe connotation and conversation analysis of narrative TV talk show, defining the narrative talkshow in the first section, elaborating the time, angle and structure of narration in the secondsection, and in the third section, summarizing the conversation characteristics and basicconversation modes by classifying the narrative TV talk show. In Chapter2, the author analyzesin2aspects: phonetic form and thread of language structure. Combining with examples in theTV programs, this chapter also includes the appropriate use of language, tone and expressionskills in order to keep the balance in language thread and to show the rhythm of conversation.Chapter3studies on the context stipulation, starting with the society background and thecharacter background, using the combination of qualitative method and quantitative method. In the last chapter, the author draws the conclusion. The author maintains that the TV talk showshould be rooted in the mainstream of the society, the host should promote the spirit of“people-oriented†humanistic value, and a good narrative TV talk show should transmit morepositive energy to the audience. Even though the narrative talk show only develops in China forfew decades, it will have a better future with the efforts of scholars and media. |
