Design for Assembly technique has been widely accepted for its successful and significant application in improving product assembliability. However its advantage has not been discovered and fully used. It is possible and necessary to introduce some advanced manufacturing technologies to DFA so as to improve this technique, and, to improve design quality of assembly and to decrease product costs. Integration, Concurrent and Visualization are the up-to-date trends of DFA technique. The paper focuses on DFA technique under CE environment. Firstly, analyze CE environment in XAC, and then, study DFA technique systematically. An actual product of aircraft component is used to examine and explain the developed system. The research work is based on the project 揹evelopment and application of DFA system?under 揦AC Y7-200A aircraft cabin decoration design and manufacturing Concurrent Engineering? which is supported by National 863/CIMS projects. The main research works covered in the paper are as follows: ? System Planning. Analyzes DFA technique under XAC-CE, introduces developing platform and programming works of DFA system, presents an concurrent, open framework for DFA. ? Assembly Modeling. Analyzes product assembly model and their information, discusses the requirements of DFA system towards Assembly Modeling and compares some typical, generally used assembly modeling methodologies, presents an Object Oriented assembly modeling method. ? Assembly Simulation. Investigates the significance of implementing assembly simulation, specifies the structure and main research works of assembly simulation concerning the aircraft product, presents an Assembly Simulation functional module based on assembly operation model. ? Example. Introduces the working scheme of the developed system 揘WPU- DFA? gives some analyzing figures about trunk compartment assembly.
