Agent technology and application is a research hotspot in computer science,which represents a new technology. It can be used to conceptualize,analyze,characterize and develop complex and large-scale systems,especially distributed systems. So,it embodies a new paradigm of software development. Agent technology plays a more and more important role in development of distributed system. On the one hand,it provides reasonable conceptions and models to describe and investigate distributed systems. On the other hand,it supplies effective approaches to resolve new distributed application problems. This project aims at bringing forward valuable viewpoints and conclusions on agent-oriented software engineering.The techniques and steps of analyzing,designing systems by agent-oriented methods are firstly researched in this paper. Then they are combined with MAS Builder,a platform of developing and running multi-agent system. And three steps to develop multi-agent systems by MAS Builder are brought forward:decomposing problem,defining Agent,implementing task module. Then this method is applied to solving distributed workflow problem,with two examples to explain it. Besides this,the model of applying Multi-Agent System to distributed workflow problem is given ift. this paper. The advantages and disadvantages of using agent technology in every phase of software lifecycle are also analyzed in this paper.
