The evolutions of information industry have given a new chance to China, and the Society entered a new era of information. It's very essential for people to communicate with fluency. In most time of last century, telephone is the most important means for remote communication. But because of the monopoly in the area of telecom, companies and families of China must afford very high communication cost. Furthermore, traditional telephones can only offer voice communication so that it limits information exchange and prevent people to achieve area-free and time-free communication.Ever since the emergence in the early 1990s,the Internet and mobile communication network have radically changed the way of accessing and exchanging information among desktops around the globe. Mobile, mobile SMS,IM and email are essential for many people. However, these message entities are independent. It's hard to communicate between two message entities and the mechanism of messages management is not available. Unified Messaging Service (UMS) emerges a variety of message services and provides the functions of storing and resending messages from many types of terminals, such as voice,SMS,IM,fax, email etc. The object of UMS is to break the barriers from different media streams and terminals to make people communicate anytime and anywhere with anyone. In this paper we provide a UMS solution based on event trigger under control of active directory. This system involves traditional telephone and IP telephone, mobile,SMS,IM,Fax and email. We designed a marked language (ML) to describe the business flows between different message entities and provide a development interface for third-part developers. The system also realized a mechanism of multimedia messages management, which makes it possible to associate UMS with e-business.In the first chapter of this paper, the significance and background of UMS is discussed. The second chapter illustrates the related technologies of UMS,such as broadband network, multimedia packets technology,XML and web services. In the third chapter,we provide a system framework and protocol layer. We design two models:corporation model between different message entities and object-orient authentication model. We also describe how to apply web service in this system. In the fourth chapter,we compare .Net & Web Services with RFC,CORBA and J2EE and make a development strategy based on .Net and Web Services. Then we detail the implementation of telephone and IP multicast conference, directory control and message entities integration. At last,a conclusion is made.
