With the fast development of network technologies and audio compression technologies, it is not difficult to transmit audio data in IP network any longer. Relative to traditional telephone, the most advantage of VoIP is to make use of the Internet resources more widely, and to provide much more higher quality service. VoIP has been changed from softwre product to multi-functions terminal, and the standards of it emerge in endlessly. In present dissertation, the design andimplementation of the VoIP terminal based on H.323 protocol are discussed. In the first of the dissertation, the background and development history of VoIP are summed up, and the principle and key technology of VoIP are introduced, while the functions that VoIP should have and the standards that VoIP should stand by are expatiated. According to these the project is provided, then the implementation waies, the problems in implementation and.the solutions are discussed.Another studies of the dissertation are to design and implement the multi-network interface of the VoIP terminal, after the basic functions and additional functions of the VoIP terminal has been implemented. The multi-network interface can make the VoIP terminal and other equitments work at one time, and make the VoIP terminal provide high QoS. The mistakes that appeared in design and implatation are analysed and the methods of improvement are brought forward at the same time.At the last of the dissertation, the design of Bi-platforms based on IP and PSTN is introduced. The Bi-platforms makes the VoIP terminal have the functions of traditional telephone. There are three projects and the foreseeable difficulties through the impletmentations of it in the dissertation.
