Since the competition of global manufacturing industry is increasingly intense, advanced manufacturing technologies appeared continuously. In the 1990's, with the development of computer software technology, network technology and IT, some new manufacturing concepts and theories arose on the foundation of flexible manufacturing technology and computer integrated manufacturing technology that appeared in the 1980's. One of these is VM (Virtual Manufacturing). As a new technology, its model building technology and simulation technology have being become the focal point to be researched.After looking up plenty of domestic and international relevant articles, author analyzed the crucial technologies and the architecture of virtual manufacturing. Then he mainly discussed the establishment of soft and hardware environment of virtual manufacturing. When author built the model of machine tool, he first built every parts of it that were decomposed according to the difference of movement. The model of machine tool was made up on this foundation. For the establishment of software environment, author analyzed its working process, and made key analysis for the handling of roughcasts. He not only have realized the direct generation of simple roughcasts. For the roughcasts that were drawn with AutoCAD, he also made research about how to handle them in the virtual environment. Finally, author discussed the process of dynamic simulation and adopted a model that can be easily realized in the programming.
