In metallurgy management, raw and processed materials need testing separately in different sorts, and the test results will prove the quality of the materials. For the various sorts of metallurgy materials, a lot of standards, which will be modified as time goes, should be obeyed in the tests, such as Enterprise Standard, National Standard, International Standard and so on. For those who work in the metallurgy department, it's really a tiring job to turn over so many standards. Furthermore, there are many disadvantages in manual management, as low efficiency, poor secrecy, and large amount of files. All these bring a lot of difficulties in search, updating, and maintenance. Accordingly, we have designed the system, which will be presented detailedly in the text.the system have the functions of assigning automatically, multi-search and security management. The Metallurgy Management Information System (MMIS) is developed by POWERBUILDER8.0 and ORACLE8I, and C/S system is adopted. In this paper, the requirements of the metallurgy departments are analyzed and the design and implementation about MMIS are introduced detailedly. This text is organized in 6 chapters. The first one (Preface) focuses on the evolution and necessity of the information management system. Chapter II (The principle related to MMIS) gives several design methods in common use and the one we have taken in the new system. And Chapter III (Requirement analysis) presents the actuality, objective and function of the metallurgy management system. The structure and function, including seven modules: management, standard, scheduling, test, techniques and so on, are discussed in Chapter IV. The fifth chapter walks though the designing steps of the standard modules, the implementation and the tools. The last chapter summarizes the whole work. This system has already tried to run and been approved interface amity and work stability.
