Due to the development of multimedia technology and fast expanding of visual information, an effective method is profoundly needed to manage and retrieve visual information. So, the Content Based Image and Video Retrieval technology comes into being and becomes an important research area in multimedia retrieval and image processing.This thesis focuses on the application of Content based image retrieval (CBIR) technology in agriculture information technology area. The research on this topic is of great significance in theory and practice. The main work of this thesis lies on:This thesis makes extensive and deep research in CBIR technology. The status quo and key technologies are introduced, the bottle-neck and development trend are also discussed. The thesis analyzes the application requirement for CBIR technology in agriculture technology area, and proposes a reasonable application model. A novel retrieval algorithm synthesizedly using color and texture features aimed for crop picture database is put forward. A real retrieval system, a crop picture database and a general picture database are constructed to test the availability of the algorithm. The synthesized analysis of shape, color and texture features profoundly advance the system precision. Furthermore, feature database is designed with reason and the retrieval speed gets a remarkable elevation The experimental results show that the method is reasonably better than existing methods. Furthermore, the capabilities of different features are all tested and compared between each other, and the problems raised are analyzed. The conclusion is drawn at the end of the paper.A novel approach to express texture feature based on energy histograms of the low frequency DCT coefficients is proposed. Color and texture features can be freely united and system parameters can be changed to adjust the accurateness and speed In a more flexible way, which is much convenient to users.
