Recently, with the fast development of the Internet, more and more companies, organizations and individuals are involved in it. In order to make the full use of the benefits brought out by the Internet, more and more web sites are established and more and more business activities are carried out on the Internet. As the provider of the hosting of the above activities, IPPs begin to pay more attention to virtual hosting service. Currently, most of the domestic IPPs are still managing virtual hosting manually. That is, after clients have paid for virtual hosting service, the system administrator of IPP need to configure virtual hosting manually, either locally or using certain kind of remote control tools. The configuration tasks include allocating disk space, domain registration and resolution, configuring email server, creating database, etc, and the configuration process involves using of several separate applications. Obviously, it is quite inconvenient for IPPs to operate in such a way. The clients may also complain on the lack of convenience, efficiency and privacy in managing 'their own sites'. A few IPPs use virtual host management system provided by foreign companies. These systems are very costly. Besides, they are not localized and difficult for local users to use. Under such circumstances, it is quite important to develop a web-based, integrated and localized virtual hosing management information system. Using this system, not only the system administrator of IPP can manage the virtual hosting with browser, but also the clients can manage their own virtual host conveniently. This dissertation focuses on the system analysis, design and implementation of a web-based virtual hosting MIS running on Windows platform. Firstly, the emerging, development, and status quo of the virtual host are described and the necessity, feasibility, and importance to develop the virtual hosting MIS are analyzed. Secondly, the new system structure is analyzed and designed after analyzing the operation of present management of virtual host. The characteristic of the system is described and some key issues involved in the system design are analyzed. The system consists of two sub-systems. The design and implementation of all modules in these two sub systems are discussed in detail in the dissertation. Some implementation codes or pseudo-codes are also provided. Thirdly, some key technologies used to implement the system are discussed, including Active Data Objects data access technology, Component Object Model technology, and dynamical web based on Active Server Pages technology. In the end, results of the research and development of this system are discussed. There are seven chapters in this dissertation. Chapter One is an introduction to the background and the objective of the system. Chapter Two introduces the environment of system developing. Chapter Three describes the design and outline of this system. In chapter Four, the design and implement of the administrator subsystem of the system is discussed in detail. Chapter Five covers the design and implementation of the client subsystem. Chapter six mainly talks about the key technologies used in the implement of this system. Chapter Seven summarizes the work of research and development of the virtual hosting MIS.
