With the development of network and personal computer peripheral device, data communication in electrical signal mode becomes more and more important. For example, nowadays many engineers in the world focus their mind on the research about Gigabit Ethernet and high speed USB technology. The key components of all the data communication system are transmitter and receiver, so it is very important to design high performance transceiver, i. e., transmitter and receiver. In this article, the design of high performance transceiver was discussed in three aspects: power consumption, speed and reliability. At last, we have designed the transceiver interface circuit, which is composed of transmitter, receiver and termination resistor.Chapter one presents the purpose of this project ; Chapter two discusses the transmission line theory; Chapter three focuses on the discussion of power consumption, speed and reliability in the design of transceiver; Chapter four demonstrates the design of transceiver for USB2. 0; Chapter five gives a conclusion about this article, and estimates the trend of transceiver.The discussion around the transmission line in the Chapter two is the base of the Chapter three, for all the electrical signals propagate from transmitter to receiver through transmission line, the characteristic of transmission line affects the quality of signal dramatically. The discussion in the Chapter three is the guidance for the design of Chapter four. Chapter four is based on chapter three.In Chapter four we use DBA (Digital Based Analog) technology for DLL and high precision on-chip resistor. DBA design is to design the most part of circuit with digital arithmetic, leaving behind a few analog circuit. DBA design can enhance the circuit' s robustness and minimize influenceof noise. It also avoids the difficulty of analog parameter design and process control. At last, the long time peak to peak jitter of DLL is 25ps, the error of high precision on-chip resistor can be controlled between the range of +4%.The chip in Chapter four has been taped out in ICC, shanghai. The test results revealed that the circuit can work, but the performance should be improved.
