First, the paper introduces the basic concepts, traits and recent development of genetic algorithm. A genetic program is developed, and its evaluation results are also given. At the same time, research on jumping genes, a new genetic operator, is presented. It is useful for the reasonable application of jumping genes in genetic programs. The comparison among crossover, mutation and jumping genes is done and explains simply why to introduce jumping genes in genetic algorithm. Based on the work about genetic algorithm, an optimization scheme, that is suited for the simulation optimization of passive microwave structure, is proposed according to the traits of genetic algorithm and high frequency simulation software. A code based on this optimization scheme has been developed. Several practical examples are optimized by the optimization code, and the optimization results show that the optimization scheme is feasible and effective. At last, two kinds of antennas designed by myself are introduced. One is named as pattern reconfigurable microstirp antenna with x contour. Four switchable directional patterns are achieved by changing the connection states of the four MEMS switches. The other is named as wideband microstrip antenna. Its impedance bandwidth is beyond 80%.
