The explosion of the global data communication has driven the ever increasing needs for network bandwith.Meanwhile, traditional transmission media can not satisfy such bandwith demand,which prompts researchers to divert their attention to exploit the potential huge capacity of the optical fibers ,and it is why the IP over WDM network architecture come into being. By leaving out ATM and SDH layers and decreasing the complexity of network architecture, IP over WDM can greatly improve transmitting efficiency.At present,Tbit/s or even higher speed transmission networks have been generally constructed.However,the development of network switching lags far behind of the development of network transmission,which poses the biggest handicap for the further development of the broadband optical fiber network.OBS(Optical Burst Switching) possess the merits of both Optical Circuit Switching(OCS) and Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and overcomes some flaws of these two kinds of Switching,so it becomes an efficient technology for the next generation IP over WDM network. This paper is mainly about the research and hardware implementation of OBS edge node receiver. In this paper, we will firstly introduce the background of OBS, and then illustrate the architecture and key technologies of this network, and what comes next is the specific description of the functional and implemental scheme of OBS edge node.Secondly, the functional division of OBS edge node receiver in our rearch supported by the "National 863 Plan"is elborated.Thirdly, we will illustrate the implementations of every module of OBS edge node receiver (including the module of OBS receiving and disassembling, the module of receive scheduling and the module of Ethernet assembling and transmitting) in detail.Among all the modules forming OBS edge node receiver, the module of receive scheduling is the paramount part of OBS edge node receiver.
