With the development of Internet applications and technology of module, software architecture has been gradually evolved from traditional Client/Server architecture to the three-tier architecture and multi-tier architecture. The future application system will be mainly built on Object-oriented, distributed objects, and autonomous computing environment. The three-tier architecture of Client/Server has been added an "intermediate level" between client and database. The system of three-tier architecture is made up of expression, server and database. The three-tier architecture has fine elasticity, strong management, and high security, fine software-reused, high systematic stability. The three-tier architecture has already been recognized and used as the most effective mode in procedure making by the developer. Nowadays the society has already entered information era, information construction is the effective way for hospitals to strengthen modern management. In present, Hospital Information System (HIS) generally adopts the modes of two-tier Client/Server and WWW Browser, which has problems such as difficulties in maintenance, upgrading, expanding, data-interchanging, and bottlenecks in networks. So it is important to use new technology to develop the Hospital Information System. This thesis proposes to use the three-tier architecture based on CORBA to realize the system. First, the thesis introduces the principle, characteristics and realized technology of the three-tier architecture in detail. Then it introduces the principle and technology of CORBA, and discusses the methods of realizing the three-tier architecture based on CORBA. It analyses and compares the methods of three kinds of distributed component technology—COM, CORBA, J2EE, all of which can realize the three-tier architecture of Client/Server, and analyses the advantages and problems in realizing the architecture. Then, this thesis proposes to use the three-tier architecture based on CORBA to realize the resource management platform of the hospital (HRP) according to the analysis of demand. And it uses the three-tier architecture based on CORBA to realize the clinic system in the resource management platform of the hospital.
